水野弘元（1901年11月19日 - 2006年1月1日），佐贺县人。1928年毕业于东京大学印度哲学科。曾从学于木村泰贤、长井真琴等人。为日本巴利语系佛教的权威，也是日文《南传大藏经》的重要译者之一。历任东京大学、驹泽大学等校教授。其博士论文为《巴利佛教を中心とした佛教の心识论》。 水野氏著述甚丰，有《巴利语文法》、《巴利语辞典》、《巴利语佛教读本》、《原始佛教》、《佛教要语的基础知识》、《佛教的基础知识》、《佛教是什么》、《修证义之佛教》、《释尊之生涯》、《南方上座部论书解说》、《佛教之原典》等二十余种，此外，又译有《经集》、《清净道论》等书。
